April 3 ------ Gabbi Garcia is straddling between her two passions on TV: hosting and acting. And that makes her very visible these days. She is the newest host of the “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB) collab edition between ABS-CBN and GMA and a lead star of the murder-mystery TV series “SLAY,” presented by Viu and GMA. Also being tapped to reprise her role as Sang’gre Alena in the upcoming iteration of “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre,” Gabbi has a lot on her plate.
“When it comes to managing my time, (I’m) very happy for Sparkle,” said Gabbi of her work schedule in a recent press conference, acknowledging also the hard work of the GMA artist center that manages her career. “Thank you, Sparkle, for making everything possible. I also do not know how they juggle my schedule ‘coz I’m doing three projects right now, I’m doing ‘Sang’gre,’ ‘Slay’ and of course, ‘PBB.’” “So, I’m very lucky that I get to do all of these things. I get to do what I love. I get to host, to act and at the same time, I get to relive Alena because they (the people behind Sparkle GMA) manage my schedule so well,” added she, giving her two cents’ worth on playing her Amelie or A character in “SLAY.”
“I’m just very blessed and lucky to be guided by direk Rod (Marmol). Takbuhan talaga namin si direk Rod sa set. I would often ask him what he would like for the scene, what would be his vision for the scene,” said she. “He makes sure that we’re all comfortable in everything, in everything that we do in all the scenes. I really owe it to direk. He has a very gentle way of directing us and keeps an open line of communication. Kaya hindi naging mahirap yung trabaho din namin because of direk (work was never difficult for us and it was because of him).”
In the Kapuso Showbiz News interview, Gabbi further gave bits and pieces about Amelie by sharing that she’s an interior designer who comes from a well-off family. A is “a strong-willed, driven girl boss” who has the tendency to look down on those below her. The character’s “history” and relationship with her mom might provide a context to it.
In another presscon, Gabbi also shared her thoughts on giving her yes to the project. “It’s a collaboration (between) Viu and GMA. It has two audiences at the same,” said she, referring to the idea that it is being aired on both free TV and the streaming platform. “Also, because it’s a murder mystery. It’s such an honor to be part of a murder mystery produced by, of course, GMA and Viu… and also, we have an all-women cast, isa din yun sa nagpapayag sa akin ‘coz the four leading ladies (the characters) are just so powerful… sabi nga ni Mikee (Quintos) sa story con namin, magpagalinggan tayo (like what Mikee said during the story conference that we have to show our best). I feel like it is such a healthy, a non-toxic competition.” “We lift each other up. We support each other, and of course, on the acting side, it’s also very different… it’s nice to explore (new roles). It’s nice to see more options for (taking on) characters,” concluded Gabbi.
