Vilma Santos' 24-hour dream come true

November 22 ------ When the Star for All Seasons dreams, she dreams big — and this Christmas, she's making it happen in a single day. Vilma Santos, the country's legendary cinematic queen, steps back into the spotlight for the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in December with "Uninvited" — a gripping crime thriller set to unfold in a single, high-stakes day.

At the film's grand and glamorous media launch Wednesday night at Solaire North, Ate Vi revealed that the film isn't just another feather in her already heavily adorned cap — it's the realization of a dream that's been with her through her long, storied career. "If you look at some of my interviews in the past, whenever I was asked, 'Vi, if you were to direct or do another movie, what would it be?' I've been saying this for the longest time — I want to make a movie that happens entirely within 24 hours. And 'Uninvited' is that movie," she beamed.

Now, Ate Vi wasn't just triumphant in making her dream come true. During the media Q&A, she set a powerful example for other actors by showing how grateful she remains to this day whenever a remarkable opportunity comes her way. In the case of "Uninvited," it isn't just about making her dream storyline come true but the thrill of being thoroughly challenged all over again. Ate Vi relished talking about how her role as Eva Candelaria — a mother who has been waiting for years to avenge her daughter's death — pushed her to explore new depths as an actress. She also said she is grateful for the movie's entire execution, which she proclaimed has genuinely exceeded her expectations. "I have Bryan (Dy) and Mentor Productions to thank for all that," Ate Vi continued with heartfelt sincerity as she began enumerating the "targets" of her gratitude one by one.

The Star for All Seasons admitted that while she envisioned a film that would begin so compelling and then unravel into chaos, all in a single day, she needed help to flesh out what would happen in between. "That was when Bryan called on sila Direk na maglagay ng storya hanggang nabuo yung [fill in a story to complete] 'Uninvited'," Ate Vi enthused. By "sila Direk," she meant the formidable creative team of filmmaker Dan Villegas as captain of the ship, screenwriter Dodo Dayao, Irene Villamor as creative producer, Antoinette Jadaone as producer, and Reign de Guzman, Omar Sortijas and Catsi Catalan as supervising producers.
