Vice Ganda opens up about her sacrifices, struggles in showbiz through the years

February 7 ------ This was what Unkabogable Star and "It’s Showtime" host Vice Ganda conveyed in the latter part of the newest vlog uploaded on her YouTube channel, as she wrapped up her latest vlog documenting her recent getaway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, together with her beloved family and friends with a poignant reflection on what her box-office film, “And The Breadwinner Is…” and her beloved character Bambi Salvador have taught her about life in general.

She commenced that segment of her vlog by thanking everyone who watched the movie, as well as imparting how it has left an indelible mark on her through the realizations she had while breathing life into Bambi. And among her takeaways from it were the value of taking a rest, enjoying the fruits of her labor, and spending time with her loved ones, which she tends to usually set aside, especially when she started to become popular and in demand. “Bukod sa napaka-stressful ng showbiz industry, bukod sa nakakapagod ‘yong trabaho namin physically, mentally, [and] emotionally, isa sa pinaka malaking hamon na hinaharap ko sa pagiging si Vice Ganda ay knowing when to stop for a while,” she related.

Vice confessed that she used to find it hard to either slow down or take a break since she didn’t want to pass up any opportunity bestowed on her, for she was scared that they might not come back anymore, nor would she be given another chance to seize them. Thus, she refused to let go of those opportunities and just kept herself open to them until things got overwhelming and she found herself drowning and neglecting the things or people that are really valuable to her. She exactly felt it when she started working on "It’s Showtime" 16 years ago, which, we all know, catapulted her career to immense success and opened a lot of doors for her in the industry. While it brought her to where she is at present, she revealed that it also hindered her from making time for herself and her loved ones, especially her Nanay Rosario. “I love 'Showtime' so much. Sa sobrang pagmamahal ko sa kanya, 'di ko siya mabitawan. Naipagpapalit ko ‘yong mga mahahalagang panahon ko para sa sarili ko [at] para sa pamilya ko,” she expressed. “Minsan, gusto kong magpahinga, gusto kong umalis kasama ‘yong pamilya ko pero iniisip ko palagi, ‘Paano ‘yong Showtime? Paano ako aabsent? ‘Pag umabsent ako nang matagal, anong mangyayari sa programa? Baka mangarag ‘yong segment, baka bumaba ‘yong ratings.”

The Unkabogable Star went on to imply how the heart-rending conclusion of “And The Breadwinner Is…” absolutely struck her, as it reminded her to enjoy her hard-earned money and make time for herself and her loved ones before it becomes too late for her. “Bago maging huli ang lahat, as much as I can, I will spend time with myself to rest. I will spend time to just be here sitting down, hindi masyado nag-iisip, tapos ine-enjoy ang mga ganitong kagandahan na nilikha ng Diyos,” she said. “Mag-spend man ako ng malaking pera, I don’t mind kasi pinagtrabahuhan ko naman ito eh. Ilang dekada na akong walang humpay sa pagtratrabaho para makaipon, at ngayong nakaipon na ako, ie-enjoy ko na ‘to. Deserve ko ‘to.”

Thus, Vice really took pleasure in spending quality time with her husband Ion Perez and her family, as well as seeing them enjoy the things that they’d been wanting to do or try in Dubai. “Ito ‘yong moment na kailangan ko nang ma-experience at ma-enjoy ‘yong fruits of my labor. Yes, we have to be working hard, we have to hustle, we have to find a living. The most important thing is to live. Kailangan damahin natin ‘yong buhay, lalong lalo na kung nagtrabaho ka talaga nang patas at malala,” she imparted. Then she added, “Ang sarap din sa pakiramdam na I am learning to say ‘no’ to the temptation of money and opportunity dahil buti na lang din nakapag-ipon-ipon naman na ako, so hindi na ako dapat ‘yong masyadong mukhang pera.” She went on to express how proud she is of herself and how happy she was to be able to spend “wonderful, meaningful, fruitful, and beautiful moments with the people I truly love,” as well as capped off the vlog with a heartfelt prayer of praises and thanksgiving to Lord Jesus Christ for all the blessings He continues to bestow on her and her loved ones.

Their almost one-week vacation in Dubai served as her and her family’s long-overdue retreat after they weren’t able to go on a trip during the holidays because she was too busy with “And The Breadwinner Is…” Since it’s only seldom for them to travel together as a family, especially for Vice, who’s always very busy with "It’s Showtime" and her other professional commitments, they made sure to make the most out of that escapade. They visited some of the famous tourist attractions, feasted on delicious meals, and splurged on shopping together, as well as tried a few outdoor activities, like skydiving, sandboarding, camel riding, and embarking on a desert safari.
