Unbeaten Carl Jammes Martin makes US debut against Colombian foe

March 16 ------ SUPER-bantamweight prospect Carl Jammes Martin finally gets to showcase his talent under the bright lights of Las Vegas as he makes his US debut against Jose Sanmartin of Colombia. The 10-round fight is set on March 22 at the Mandalay Bay in Nevada. It will be Martin’s third straight fight outside the country after winning two straight bouts in Mexico last year.

The fighter from Lagawe, Ifugao enters the fight undefeated in 25 bouts (20 by KOs) after blasting Anthony Jimenez Salas in two rounds last September in Culiacan, Mexico, before following it up with a fifth round TKO of Ruben Tostado Garcia two months later in Tijuana. Martin has been training for the fight at the Knuckleheads boxing gym in Las Vegas since January. “I am so thrilled to be fighting in Las Vegas. When I was a little boy, I grew up watching some of the greatest fighters in boxing history showcasing their talent in Las Vegas. I watched many Manny Pacquiao fights out there, and now I’m fighting in Las Vegas,” Martin said. “This is a dream come true.”

But the Filipino will be in for a tough fight against Sanmartin, who sports a 35-9-1 record (21 KOs) and fought world champions such as Tomas Rojas and Emmanuel Navarrete in the past. International matchmaker Sean Gibbons, who is also president of MP Promotions, said the fight against Sanmartin serves as a big test for Carl James, who could be vying for a world title in the latter part of the year should he emerge victorious against his opponent from Barranquilla, Colombia. “This is a very exciting time in Carl’s career. To have his first fight here in the US in Las Vegas where Carl’s idol Manny Pacquiao has fought so many times, is indeed, a dream come true. Carl is looking to impress everyone next week on his way to his ultimate goal of winning a world title in 2025,” Gibbons said.
