MANILA, Philippines, December 20 ----- A low-pressure area east of Surigao del Norte could develop today into a tropical depression, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). “The LPA being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility has a high chance of development into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” PAGASA said yesterday.
On Wednesday, Tropical Depression Querubin weakened into an LPA. The state weather bureau had said it could redevelop into a cyclone. The LPA was located 220 kilometers east of Surigao City. Heavy to intense rains are expected today in Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.
Moderate to heavy rain may be experienced in Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Masbate, Cebu, Bohol, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur. Catanduanes and Albay could experience heavy to intense rains in the afternoon. Tomorrow, heavy to intense rains will affect Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Palawan.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar. The northeast monsoon will affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, PAGASA said.
