January 9 ------ ARVIN Tolentino and Robert Bolick get another shot at toppling June Mar Fajardo as the trio lead the race for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference award. Both Tolentino and Bolick are lurking behind the eight-time MVP in the latest statistical points standings released by the league coming off the holiday break.
The 6-foot-10 Fajardo is again on top of the race with a 44.8sps built on averages of 19.8 points, 4.5 assists, and a league-best 17.3 rebounds for the defending champions. Fajardo has the most number of BPC awards won in league history with 10, the recent of which came in the season-opening Governors’ Cup where he beat Tolentino and Bolick for the conference’s highest individual honor.
Tolentino is just behind Fajardo at No. 2 with 40.8sps, while Bolick follows at third with 37.6sps. The Northport forward leads the league in scoring with 24.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.1 block shots in guiding the Batang Pier on top of the standings with a 6-1 record. Bolick continues to be the league’s top assists man with an average of 7.9 per game. In terms of points, the NLEX gunner averaged 24.1 while adding 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.
Calvin Oftana of TNT ranks fourth with 34.3sps (21.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists), and Converge shooting guard Jordan Heading is the only rookie to make it in the Top 10 list at No. 5 with 33.1sps (17.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists). Another Northport player in Joshua Munzon is also making a case for himself by landing at No. 6 with 32.9sps, highlighted by his league-best 2.4 steals, followed by Meralco’s Chris Newsome (32.6sps) and Converge guard Alec Stockton (31.4sps). Two-time BPC winner Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra (29.5sps) occupies the No. 9 spot and Leonard Santillan of Rain or Shine lies in 10th place (27.8sps).
