The evolution of John Lloyd Cruz


August 9 ------ John Lloyd Cruz is no doubt one of the most talented and versatile actors in Philippine showbiz. His career has spanned over 20 years and through it all, he has proven his creativity and charisma. He began his career in showbiz in 1999 starring in a teen-oriented drama. He eventually appeared in several dramas series, earning him the title of a matinee idol.


In film, John Lloyd has several blockbuster hits. His mostly portrayed the role of a dashing, romantic, leading man opposite some of the most bankable actresses in the country including Bea Alonzo. He also branched out into producing films. In 2015, he starred in and produced the crime drama thriller Honor Thy Father, which was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. His role earned him the 39th Gawad Urian (2016) for Best Actor. He has also been recognized as one of the three recipients of the Star Asia Award at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) in 2016. He took a break from the limelight and went on hiatus in 2017. He still worked in several projects, however, appearing as an actor and working as director from 2018 to 2019.


John Lloyd also debuted as a music video director in 2019 for band Sugar Hiccup's “Saturnine Nevermore.” In 2021, he made headlines after he signed a contract with GMA Network, confirming his showbiz comeback.
