April 28 ------ CARL Tamayo pushed Changwon LG Sakers on the cusp of advancing to the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Finals with an 84-75 win over Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus on Saturday at Changwon Gymnasium. The Gilas Pilipinas stud was solid in Game Two with 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting on top of five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
He proved to be the perfect complement to Assem Marei who led the charge with a superb 24-point, 18-rebound, and 7-assist performance, as the Sakers protected home court to grab a 2-0 series lead. Changwon can complete the sweep on Monday. Migs Oczon fired six points after making both of his three-pointers in nine minutes of play on top of three rebounds in the Ulsan defeat. Gaige Prim paced the Mobis Phoebus with 16 points and five boards.
Seoul SK Knights are also closing in on a finals spot after an 86-70 Game Two victory over Suwon KT Sonicboom at Jamsil Student Gymnasium on Friday. Juan Gomez de Liano was scoreless in his brief time on the court, but it hardly mattered with Jameel Warney commanding the Knights with 28 points, 14 boards, and five assists. JD Cagulangan did his best for the Sonicboom, but his 10 points, a rebound, and an assist could not help the road team steal homecourt. Suwon fights for its life in the best-of-five series on Sunday.
