March 28 ------ SPANISH FOOTBALL's Yellow Submarine, Villarreal CF, has opened up the doors to the Philippine football community by establishing its academy program in the country. The announcements were made on the team's official website.
Villarreal's academy will be located in Alabang, with the clinic commencing its operations starting April of this year. The club will also send its UEFA qualified coaches to travel to the Philippines, where they will select players to compete in Villarreal's summer tournaments in Spain this June. In addition, the chosen players will have the opportunity to travel abroad to see the club's facilities.
Eumir Siao was chosen to be the director of Villarreal Philippines Academy, where he expressed the overall vision of the org. “With our vision to raise the standard of youth football in the Philippines, it was easy for us to partner with Villarreal CF as we believe they can help us to achieve this. One thing we love about Villarreal CF is the club family and the community and this is exactly what we are looking to bring to the Philippines," he said in the official website. We are just an island and we want to develop football in our nation, and I think it is a perfect marriage between a successful club and a country that needs to raise our football standards.”
With Villarreal CF's involvement, the academy will also attain the full-pledged support of the Yellow Submarine. "As an official partner academy of Villarreal CF, Villarreal Philippines Academy is connected with the Spanish soccer club at all times. Villarreal CF provides support for its partner academies in all areas, predominantly on a sporting level but also with marketing, communications and administration assistance to help each academy reach new heights," as stated on the website. "The link between Villarreal CF in Spain and its partner academies around the world is strong and therefore provides a real pathway and opportunities for players to achieve their full potential."
