SMB endures Brownlee's 49 points in Game 4, ties series at 2-all

October 17 ------ SAN Miguel poured on the heat in the second half to take the fight out of Barangay Ginebra, 131-121, and even their PBA Governors Cup semifinals series at 2-2. June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, and a hobbling EJ Anosike conspired in that huge breakaway that saw the Beermen outscore the Kings, 37-29, in a high-octane third quarter to virtually seal the outcome of Game 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

That third quarter run had San Miguel taking a 99-85 lead entering the final quarter. June Mar Fajardo finished with 29 points and 16 rebounds to help the Beermen endure the 49 points of Ginebra import Justin Brownlee and level the best-of-seven series at 2-2. Game 5 is set on Friday at the Ynares Cnter in Antipolo.

Justine Brownlee carried most of the work load for Ginebra with 49 points including 17 in the third period when he almost carried the Kings on his broad shoulders. The Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player added nine rebounds and five assists, while going a perfect 2-of-2 from four-point line. Stephen Holt added17, and Scottie Thompson 15 for the Kings, who trailed by as many as 122-102 late in the most lopsided contest in the series so far. The series is now a virtual best-of-three and San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent hopes the trend of the Beermen winning the even number games won't hold in the succeeding outings. "The thing sana doesn't follow. I just hope we change the tide in Friday's game," said Gallent. "So I just hope tradition breaks on Friday."

Anosike shrugged off a hurting ankle and finished with 27 points, 14 of them came in the game-turning third quarter and Perez had 20 on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc for San Miguel.
