Savi sets PVL pro record for most points scored in prelims play




February 26 ------ FOR the second time in her PVL career, PLDT's Savi Davison emerged as the league's scoring leader at the end of the preliminary round and she has done so in record fashion. The Fil-Canadian spiker's 262-point total output in 11 games (23.82 points per game) in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference is the most scored by any player, local or import, before a tournament's playoff or knockout stage. 

  

Capital1's foreign guest player Marina Tushova, who fired an all-time single-game 50-piece in last year's Reinforced Conference, previously held the record with 251 points in eight prelims matches played. Completing the top five prelims scores this conference are former PVL MVPs in Choco Mucho's Sisi Rondina (240 points) and Petro Gazz' Brooke Van Sickle (213 points) along with ex-Adamson star spikers in Farm Fresh's Trisha Tubu (182 points) and Nxled's Chiara Permentilla (157 points). 

  

Davison also emerged as the league's most efficient spiker for the first time ever with a 39.14 percent spiking success rate, ahead of Tubu (38.02 percent), Van Sickle (37.61 percent), her PLDT teammate Erika Santos (35.35 percent) and another former league MVP in Bernadeth Pons (34.17 percent). With scoring and spiking locked in, Davison's defensive presence also proved to be a strong one by the numbers on both the net and the floor. 

  

PLDT's ace scorer ranked fifth-overall in receiving (27.58 percent) — one of three non-liberos in the top five with Creamline's Jema Galanza (30.68 percent) and Cignal's Vanie Gandler (27.69 percent). Leading that department are three-time PVL best libero in Choco Mucho's Thang Ponce (39.68 percent) and Petro Gazz' Blove Barbon (30.68 percent). 

  

Davison is also among the PLDT trifecta in the league's top five blockers where she ranked joint-third with Majoy Baron (0.63 blocks per set), just ahead of Dell Palomata (0.58 per set). ZUS Coffee's Thea Gagate, the league's inaugural No. 1 draft pick, shared the spoils with Creamline's Bea de Leon as the leading net defenders who normed 0.65 blocks per set. Elsewhere, Cignal's veteran duo in Dawn Macandili-Catindig (5.05 digs per set) and Gel Cayuna (4.54 sets per set) topped the digging and setting deparments. 

  

Following Dawn's lead in digging are PLDT's Kath Arado (4.40 per set), Galeries Tower's Alyssa Eroa (4.28 per set), Ponce (3.55 per set) and Capital1 rookie Roma Doromal (3.46 per set). Two-time best setter Kyle Negrito (4.48 per set), Farm Fresh captain Louie Romero (4.08 per set), ZUS Coffee skipper Cloanne Mondonedo (3.70 per set) and PLDT rookie Angge Alcantara complete the pecking order behind Cayuna.
