February 6 ------ Rosegie Ramos firmed up her bid of qualifying for this year’s Paris Olympics after bagging one silver and one bronze medal in the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan over the weekend.opponents. The 20-year-old Zamboanga native opened her campaign with an 88-kilogram lift to win the silver medal in snatch before posting 102 kilos for sixth place in clean & jerk. Ramos actually attempted to clear 104-kg lift on her third try in clean & jerk with hopes of landing into the Top 2, but was unsuccessful. Her 88-kg lift in snatch actually erased her own national record of 87 kilos at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last year.
Ri, a two-time Asian Games champion, ruled the field with gold medals in snatch (95 kilos) and clean & jerk (125 kilos). Suzuki, for her part, banked on her silver-medal feat in clean & jerk (109 kilos) after trailing at fifth in snatch with 82 kilos. Lovely Inan, meanwhile, finished seventh in the same weight class with a total lift of 181 kilos after lifting 81 kilos for eighth place in snatch and 110 kilos in clean & jerk for seventh. Other Filipinos competing in the tournament, which offers ranking points needed to qualify for the Paris Games, are Tokyo Olympian Elreen Ando and Vanessa Sarno in the women’s 59kg and women’s 71kg, respectively.
