Ramos, Parks Jr. lead Hokkaido, Osaka back to win column; Kai sits out

January 7 ------ Dwight Ramos and Ray Parks Jr. were among the major factors that helped their respective squads return to the win column of the Japan B.League’s 2024-25 season. Ramos provided a spark for Levanga Hokkaido in their 70-64 victory over the Chiba Jets at the LaLa Arena Tokyo-Bay to get their 10th win of the present year.

The 6-foot-4 Filipino fan-favorite scattered 17 points, three rebounds, and an assist in only 19:33 minutes of action, and this helped Levanga to improve to 10-18 which is good for fifth place in the Eastern Division. For his part, Parks Jr. only had nine markers, five dimes, four boards, and a steal in Osaka Evessa’s latest game, but it was enough for them to beat the Kyoto Hannaryz, 94-83, at the Kataoka Arena Kyoto. This was the 15th victory of Osaka in 28 games, and it resulted in them moving up to No.3 in the Western Division.

Another Pinoy import who impressed over the weekend was Kiefer Ravena. He aided the Yokohama B-Corsairs dump AJ Edu and the Nagasaki Velca, 90-67, at the Happiness Arena. Ravena tallied 21 markers, three dimes, two boards, and a steal to push Yokohama’s standing to 11-17, while Edu was quiet, only putting up three points, four rebounds, a steal, and a block, in Nagasaki’s 15th loss in 28 games. Also returning to the win column was Matthew Wright and the Kawasaki Brave Thunders, and this was after they defeated the Sendai 89ers, 77-71, at the Kawasaki Todoroki Arena. The sweet-shooting Wright posted 20 points with three rebounds, three steals, and an assist in their seventh win in 28 outings. These results allowed Kawasaki to move up to eighth place in the Central Division.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Filipino imports were dealt with losses in their respective games. One of them was Kai Sotto, who even exited the Koshigaya Alphas’ game against the Seahorses Mikawa prematurely due to an apparent left leg injury. This did not help the cause of the Alphas as they fell through a slim 79-77 defeat against Mikawa at the Kariyashi Taiikukan. They fell to 8-20, sixth in the Eastern Division. Roosevelt Adams and the Yamagata Wyverns were also on the losing end after their 86-79 defeat against Veltex Shizuoka at the Hamamatsu Arena. Adams still finished with a decent 14-point, six-rebound game with two assists and a steal, but they fell to 12-18 in the team standings, fifth in the Eastern Division.

Completing the list are Geo Chiu and the Ehime Orange Vikings who were dominated by the Kagoshima Rebnise, 102-76, at the Iyo Citizen Gymnasium. He had four boards and an assist in 26:05 minutes of action. Following this game, they remain at seventh in the Western Division with their 1-29 standing.
