MANILA, Philippines, January 31 ------ After a 551-day sabbatical, Rachel Anne Daquis is back on the taraflex court, but now, with the Farm Fresh Foxies. So the Foxies made sure not to spoil Daquis’ return as Farm Fresh tripped the Galeries Tower High Risers, 28-26, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Daquis last saw action in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference, where her former team Cignal HD Spikers won the bronze medal against F2 Logistics. The volleyball star has not returned to the HD Spikers since then, opting to focus on coaching and other personal ventures before signing with the Foxies late last year. “When I went to the floor, I knew what to do even if I just came off vacation,” said the 37-year-old Daquis in Filipino on her readiness even after a two-year break. “I believe in perfect timing. I’m just trusting coach’s (Benson Bocboc) system. I’m ready any time,” added Daquis, who scored just one point in the game.
It’s young star Trisha Tubu who took the cudgels for Farm Fresh, putting up 33 points off 28 attacks to lead the Foxies to a bounce-back win that pushed them up to 4-4 in the standings. Tubu’s performance was the second-highest scoring tally this season after Petro Gazz’s Brooke Van Sickle’s 34-point eruption on the conference’s opening day. Alyssa Bertolano also contributed 11 points on top of the 10 scored by Jolina dela Cruz, who also returned to action this month.
The Galeries slid to 1-7, the third-worst win-loss card in the league. Earlier, ZUS Coffee stunned the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, to gain a share of the seventh seed. Jovelyn Gonzaga fired 20 points along with 15 digs to lead the Thunderbelles, while Glaudine Troncoso added 18 points off 16 attacks. The win put ZUS Coffee at 4-4, tying with the Foxies and the Akari Chargers in the standings. Chery Tiggo fell to 5-4 to slip out of the top four. Ara Galang carried the load for the Crossovers with 20 points including 17 attacks, 2 blocks, and an ace.
