R'Bonney Gabriel hikes the Masungi trail, says georeserve 'must be protected and preserved'

April 2 ------ R’Bonney Gabriel just experienced the natural beauty of the Masungi Georeserve. On Instagram, the Miss Universe 2020 shared her experience of doing the constellation hike and described Masungi as well-kept, beautiful, and peaceful. “It was such a [unique] experience hiking at night,” the fashion designer and beauty queen said in the caption. “This georeserve is a must-see daytime or nighttime and must be protected and preserved,” she added, followed by the hashtags #SaveMasungi and #MasungiGeoreserve

In March, the Department of Environment (DENR) scrapped its 2002 Supplemental Agreement with Blue Star, the property firm behind Masungi, citing its failure to execute terms within the contract and alleged issues on legality. DENR demanded Blue Star to vacate the 300-hectare area where the Masungi Georeserve conservation project in Rizal is located. In response, Blue Star urged DENR to engage in dialogue instead of “abrupt termination.”

Earlier, the Masungi Georeserve Foundation urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to stop and review DENR’s eviction notice. In February, Masungi was named the 2024 national winner of the Energy Globe Award in the Philippines. The Energy Globe Award is assisted by an international jury of about 30 energy and environmental experts who evaluate projects based on different criteria. The national winners from over 180 participating countries are then nominated for the Energy Globe World Award. It is presented in five categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Youth.
