MANILA, April 29 ------ Fifi Sharma celebrated her birthday with a bang after Akari cruised past hapless Strong Group, 25-8, 25-15, 25-16, to end their 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino campaign on a sweet note. The middle blocker took home the Best Player of the Game honors after putting up nine points on four attacks and five blocks, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat top-scored for the pink jerseys with 12 at the PhilSports Arena.
Akari's Max Juangco and Grethcel Soltones protected their side of the PVL taraflex with 15 and 13 excellent digs, while Janel Maraguinot pulled the strings with 15 excellent sets. For skipper Michelle Cobb, the victory meant closing the conference well after incurring a lot of losses.
The Chargers concluded their campaign with a 5-6 win-loss card, capturing seventh place. "I think sa 'min, it’s just really about ending the [conference] well. We’ve been through a lot of tough losses so parang siguro, okay na rin na ganito 'yung ending namin despite na hindi namin na-achieve yung goal namin this season," the former La Salle Spiker said during the postgame press conference. "Hopefully, this is just all part of the process for Akari and the whole franchise," she added.
Souzan Raslan was in double-digit territory to pace Strong Group's offense, while Dolly Grace Versoza tallied 12 excellent digs. The Athletics remained winless after 11 games in their first run in the league.
