MANILA, August 16 ------ Akari is one win away from sweeping the preliminaries of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference. The Chargers nabbed their seventh win, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18, eliminating sister team Nxled in the process at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Import Oly Okaro fired a game-high 30 points anchored primarily on attacks, while star spiker Ivy Lacsina chipped in 19 for the winning cause. Coach Taka Minowa acknowledged that despite their winning streak, they still need to overcome their slow starts across games which, according to him, the Chargers suffer from in the import-laced tilt. "All the games I think all the same. As always, the first set is very weak and today, it happened again. We really need to fix it if we’re going to be a champion team," Minowa said.
Nxled reinforcement Meegan Hart paced the defeated side with 16 markers, while Chiara Permentilla added 11 points in the four-set loss. The Chargers could sweep the tourney against Farm Fresh on Tuesday, while the Chameleons could bounce back against Cignal at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
