MANILA, August 7 ------ Akari remains red-hot in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference. The Chargers bucked their slow start en route to a 15-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 triumph against Cignal at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. This also marks a milestone for Taka Minowa's cogs, who have tied their franchise-best five wins in the league without even dropping a single match.
They also put a spot on the HD Spikers' record, who now fell to 4-1. Import Oly Okaro led the offense with 24 points on 22 attacks, one block and an ace, while spiker Ivy Lacsina added 14 points. Middle blocker Ced Domingo also had herself a game with 10 markers. For Okaro, their sweet 5-0 card to kickstart the import-laden tourney is a fruit of their hard work. "It's nice to get these kinds of results when we're putting in the effort every day. The team works really hard," the American spiker said. "Our coach here does a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff, a lot of crazy stats stuff, so it's nice to see it, the results that we're having," she went on.
After installing a 2-1 set lead, Akari pulled away in the final frame from a 5-all tie with a 7-0 rally, sparked by a Lacsina hit and concluded by an MJ Perez attack error. The HD Spikers still posed a threat after the Chargers reached match point, 24-19, and closed within two after Perez's ball push for a 24-22 count, but the Akari import would find the empty spot in Cignal's defense to end the encounter in over two hours. Perez, who was the only Cignal player in twin-digit territory, paced her team with 24 points, 11 excellent receptions, and nine excellent digs.
