OKINAWA, Japan, January 15 ------ Hometown boy Carl Tamayo showed no mercy in his maiden B.League All-Stars stint, leading Asia All-Stars to a 127-115 victory over the Rising Stars.
Tamayo fires 18 points
The Ryukyu Golden Kings player finished with 18 points, two rebounds, and an assist steering the Filipino-dominated Asian squad to victory in the Okinawa Arena. Chuan Shin Ryu trailed Tamayo with 15 points as Lee Dae Sung added 11.
Sotto, Ravena sparkle
Kai Sotto was a power underneath the board, scoring on a couple of unstoppable dunks, alongside Thirdy Ravena. Sotto had nine points, two boards and dimes, apiece, while Ravena finished with five points, and two rebounds and two assists. First-timer RJ Abarrientos had a fair contribution of 10 dimes and five points, while fellow Pinoy Roosevelt Adams and Matthew Wright had eight points each. Asian All-Stars survived a late scare from the Rising Stars with Kai King making treys towards the end of the fourth frame. King scored a total of 30 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Interestingly, the Asia All-Stars pulled off an all-guard lineup in the middle of the second quarter, and started the third frame with an all-big roster. While the goal is to put up entertainment, Sotto shared it's a fair angle to explore. "Sabi ng coach namin [Anthony McHenry] nung half time na start daw kaming lahat na 7-footer, and si Carl, ayun good experiment, nanalo kami," he said. With him getting the loudest cheer from the bleachers, Tamayo shared he's glad to give his home crowd a show, through the trust of his teammates. "Feel na feel ko 'yung love ng Okinawa sa'kin... My teammates gave me the chance to make those shots, and I made it, and I'm happy," the former University of the Philippines forward shared after the game.
