MANILA, December 11 ------ State volcanologists warn of rain-induced lahars in areas near Kanlaon Volcano. In an advisory released, Phivolcs said heavy rains falling on the southern slopes of the volcano may generate lahars in rivers that pass through the barangays affected by Monday’s eruption. “Local government units have been advised to monitor these and downstream barangays in case lahars occur and impact these communities,” it added.
Alert Level 3 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, Phivolcs also said. Phivolcs earlier warned those staying near the erupting Kanlaon to take extra precaution against "very dangerous" emissions from the volcano. Kanlaon Volcano was earlier placed under alert level 3, which means that a hazardous eruption is possible in the coming weeks after the volcano spewed dark gray ash columns on Monday.
