MANILA, September 14 ------ The world champions of virtual basketball will be crowned here in the Philippines. Basketball-loving country Philippines will host the eFIBA Season 3 World Finals, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced.
The tournament, which will be the home stretch of the eFIBA Season 3, will take place on December 11 to 12 at the SMX Clark Convention Center in Pampanga. "It's an exciting prospect to be having this season's eFIBA World Finals in the Philippines since we all know the passion the country has for our sport," FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said in a statement.
Gracing the virtual basketball competition will be the regional champions of Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North and South America and Oceania, and runners up from Europe. The players will be using the PlayStation 5 with the newly released NBA 2K25, which features the Gilas Pilipinas jersey.
Eight teams will be battling against each other in two groups, and then the top two teams from each pool will proceed to the semifinals. And of course, winners in the semis will advance to the championship round. Games can be watched on eFIBA's YouTube channel and other channels. Collegiate league UAAP recently held an esports contest for the title.
Paolo Medina of the Ateneo de Manila University emerged victorious against De La Salle University's Kegan Yap in a three-game nail-biter to win the tilt.
