December 9 ------ BUSINESSMAN Teddy Javines is slowly but surely making a name in the sport of shooting. Javines captured the men’s trap gold medal in the 25th Pan-Pacific Friendship Shooting Competition 2024 last week at the National Shooting Training Base Gongxu in Taoyuan, Taipei.
Javines, who only started shooting two years ago, beat seasoned shooters Chul Hyung Hwang of South Korea and Chiang Hao-jyun of Chinese-Taipei with his total of 101 (18, 18, 19, 22 and 24) for a final 32 points. Hwang scored 100+1 (23,20,17,19,21) for 30 points and the silver medal while Chuang 99+1 (20,20,19,21,19) got 26 points for the bronze. “Kahit pa puro veteran shooters yun mga nakatapat ko, with God and my family on my side, nakuha din,” said Javines.
His teammate Jethro Dionisio, a many-time member of Philippine national shooting team, finished fourth among 33 participants from the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and the host team. Javines’ 15-year-old son, Antonio Joseph, finished in ninth place. He is the youngest among the competitors in men’s side and the 2023 Philippine National Junior Trap and Skeet champion.
Javines later joined hands with his son AJ and Dionisio to lead the Philippine team in bagging the Team TM Trap event gold medal with a 299 total over South Korea (295 points) and Chinese Taipei. Dionisio led the Philippines with 103 points, Teddy Javines with 101 points and AJ Javines with 95 points. Monica Tish Javines, 12, finished with the silver medal in only her first international competion behind 18 year-old Yeh Mei-hsuan of Taipei.
