November 22 ------ The Philippine men's tennis team kicked off their Davis Cup campaign with a victory against Mongolia at the Polytechnic University in Isa Town, Bahrain. The Filipinos dominated the hardcourt with a 3-0 record to break their four-year hiatus from the tournament.
Eric Jed Olivarez Jr. took the first singles win against Sonompuntsag Enkhjargal, 6-0, 6-0. Alberto Lim defeated Undrakh Purdevdorj with 6-1, 6-3 in the second singles. Meanwhile, Ruben Gonzalez and Francis Alcantara also shone in the doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Tenuun Oyunbold and Zolbadar Urnukh.
Placed in Group V, the Philippine team must make it to the top two out of 15 countries to reach a Group IV promotion. Other Group V countries include: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Guam, Laos, Macau, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pacific Oceania, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, and Yemen.
The Philippines vie for their next victory as they face Macau today.
