January 28 ------ The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) provided medical assistance to a Filipino fishing boat off the coast of Silanguin Island in Zambales. According to PCG, its vessel, BRP Cabra, received a distress call from a Filipino fishing boat 70 nautical miles southwest of Silanguin Island.
With the help of the fishermen, the PCG medical team was transported to the fishing boat. Unfortunately the fisherman had already died. BRP Cabra used its crane to recover the body of the fisherman to be brought back to Subic.
The PCG also said the vessel was being shadowed by the Chinese Coast Guard vessel CCG-3304, which hindered the PCG's efforts to recover the body. BRP Teresa Magbanua is en route to take over the responsibility of patrolling the coast of Zambales to address the presence of Chinese vessels, the PCG added.
