MANILA, May 13 ------ The Meralco Bolts are the second team to clinch a place in the semifinals of the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup, after they swept the NLEX Road Warriors. Meralco clobbered the Road Warriors, 100-81, in Game 2 of their quarterfinals match-up at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum to complete a sweep of their best-of-3 series.
Six players scored in double-digits for the Bolts, led by Chris Banchero with 23 points on top of seven rebounds and six assists. Chris Newsome just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. After building a 76-70 lead at the end of the third quarter, the Bolts held NLEX to just 11 points in the final period to break the game open.
Robert Bolick Jr. had 18 points for NLEX, but he only had four assists and committed as many turnovers. The Road Warriors shot just 36% for the game. In the semifinals, the Bolts will be up against a familiar foe in Barangay Ginebra in a best-of-seven series.
