October 16 ------ PARIS Olympic boxer Hergie Bacyadan found success in a different sport, winning the gold medal in the Asian Kickboxing Championships 2024 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Bacyadan ruled the female K1 -75kg, just two months after competing for the Philippines in boxing at the Paris Games, where she joined silver medalist Nesthy Petecio, bronze medalist Aira Villegas, Eumir Marcial, and Carlo Paalam.
Bacyadan is no longer a stranger to competing in other combat sports, being a world champion in vovinam in 2023 and a former world silver medalist in wushu. Bacyadan won one of the four gold medals won by the Philippines, two coming from Jovan Medallo, who bagged the musical forms with weapon and musical form open hand crowns.
Carlo Von Buminaang was also crowned champion in the men’s 67kg low kick category. Also winning medals were Janah Lavador (three bronzes in the musical form with weapon, musical form without weapon, and creative form with weapon), Renz Dacquel (bronze in low kick female -48kg, Lance Airon Villamer (bronze in point fighting -63kg male), and Daryl Chulipas (bronze in full contact -51kg male).
