Metro Manila, January 5 ------ Malacañang declared January 9 as a special non-working day in the City of Manila for this year's Feast of the Black Nazarene. According to Proclamation No. 434 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the holiday would give devotees in Manila "full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration."
This year marks the return of the grand procession of the 400-year-old image of the Black Nazarene or Traslacion after a three-year break due to COVID-19. Authorities said around 16,000 policemen will be deployed next week for the feast, while a "no fly zone" policy will also be implemented over the city.
The city government also asked devotees to wear face masks during the feast to prevent a possible surge in COVID-19 cases.
