Metro Manila, July 18 ----- The low pressure area (LPA) near Mindanao may develop into storm category on Tuesday, according to the state weather bureau.
In its 4 a.m. briefing on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last located 810 kilometers east of Mindanao. The LPA currently has no direct effect on the country but its extension may cause scattered rains over some regions, PAGASA added.
If it intensifies into a tropical cyclone, it will be given the name "Egay," the fifth storm to enter the country in 2023 and the second for the month of July. PAGASA earlier warned that at least three cyclones are expected to enter the country's weather monitoring area in July.
