Pacquiao-Buakaw exhibition boxing match set for April

Metro Manila, January 9 ------ Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is set to get in the ring with Muay Thai icon Buakaw Banchamek in an exhibition match on April 20 in Thailand. Event organizers said the bout, dubbed "The Match of Legend," would have a budget of $25 million or ₱1.36 billion. The match was first anounced in July 2023.

Pacquiao, 45, will face Buakaw, 41, in a bout of six three-minute rounds, two-minute breaks, and under boxing rules, the former senator's team said. It will be fought under a catchweight of 70 kilograms or 154 pounds.

Buakaw, who is known for his devastating switch kick, will be unable to utilize his mastery of the art of eight limbs against the Filipino boxing legend, who holds a professional record of 62 wins including 39 knockouts, eight losses, and two draws. Aside from Buakaw, the eight-division champion also teased a rematch with his former rival, undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather this year.

In December 2022, Pacquiao fought and won in an exhibition bout versus South Korean mixed martial artist DK Yoo.
