MANILA, Philippines, November 10 ------ Popular game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will headline the esports event in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand next year. This also marks the fourth consecutive time that the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game will be a medal sport at the biennial sporting event.
Both men and women will be seeing action in the said title, MOONTON Games said in its announcement post. Ray Ng, head of the esports ecosystem at MOONTON Games, said its addition to the SEA Games "empowers" esports and is an opportunity to "bring glory to their respective nations."
"International sporting events like the SEA Games empower esports players, organizations, and federations by giving them a globally-recognized competitive platform to bring glory to their respective nations," said Ng. "MLBB's return as a medalled event is another positive step forward for esports, which has become increasingly accepted by the Thai and wider global sporting community as a competitive sport," he added.
The Philippines is the defending champion in the men's division, while Indonesia will try to retain the gold medal in the women's division. The SEA Games will be held from December 9 to 20, 2025.
