September 15 ------ Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) has announced a significant shift in the pageant world by welcoming contestants of any age, thanks to the lifting of age limits by the Miss Universe Organization (MUO).
"This progressive change signifies a new era for pageantry, challenging societal norms about age and beauty. MUPh recognizes this as an opportunity to celebrate women from diverse age groups, much like the pageant has shattered stereotypes over the years," organizers of the MUPh beauty pageant said in an official statement released on Sept. 14. The complete statement: "At the heart of this transformation lies a celebration of the myriad paths that lead women to become remarkable individuals at any age. MUO's decision aligns with the core values of Miss Universe, focusing on empowering women and highlighting their unique journeys. The pageant's mission has always extended beyond aesthetics, valuing resilience, intellect, and vision as essential qualities. "It's essential to emphasize that despite this change in age requirements, the judging criteria for Miss Universe Philippines will remain stringent and comprehensive. Contestants will still be evaluated based on their overall presentation, advocacy, intellect, and other factors that contribute to what makes a Miss Universe.
"Miss Universe Philippines remains committed to upholding the highest standards of excellence in selecting its contestants. A thorough selection process is in place to ensure that aspirants meet these rigorous standards. "This process is even more critical now that MUPh has transitioned to accepting winners and appointees from cities and provinces exclusively through its Accredited Partners Program. "Under this program, aspiring contestants are required to win or be appointed representatives of their respective cities or provinces. This ensures that participants not only embody beauty but also represent the pride and support of their local communities. The program amplifies the significance of the competition, highlighting the unity and backing each contestant brings. "The shift in age requirements doesn't merely increase the number of contestants; it diversifies the pool of aspirants. This change signifies a commitment to providing more women with the opportunity to participate in Miss Universe Philippines, sharing their stories, experiences, and wisdom on the global stage. It broadens the scope of representation, allowing women of all ages to compete for the prestigious title.
"In essence, removing age limits for Miss Universe Philippines contestants signifies more than just a policy shift. It's a bold step toward greater inclusivity and representation. It ensures that the crown and the powerful platform accompanying it are accessible to women from all walks of life, irrespective of their age. This historic change invites women to embrace their unique journeys and challenges stereotypes, further solidifying Miss Universe Philippines' commitment to empowering women."
