February 27 ------ Kapamilya star Maymay Entrata expressed her gratitude for being part of a music camp alongside fellow ABS-CBN artists as well as US-based composers and producers. In a video posted on her YouTube channel, Maymay recalled how she first learned about the opportunity from ABS-CBN Music head Roxy Liquigan. “Inexplain sa akin ni Sir Roxy na it’s an opportunity na iyong ABS-CBN artists and composers to work with artists and composers sa US po,” Maymay shared.
Initially, she thought she was simply going to meet producers and writers. However, she was surprised to learn that she would be staying at a camp to write her own songs with the help of other artists. “Sabi ko, ‘Kasama po ako?’ kasi kapag nagsusulat po ako ng kanta ako lang eh. Sabi nila, ‘The main reason we would like you to be in the music camp is we love to meet you’. ‘Ah okay magmeet lang pala.’ Pagpunta ko sa music camp, sabi ko, ‘Ma’am, ilang araw nga po ako rito?’ ‘Buong week ka rito’ ‘Akala ko po magmeet lang kami nila Sir.’ ‘Hindi. You will be a part of this music camp,'” Maymay said.
Although she is still new to songwriting and composing, Maymay expressed her gratitude for the chance to work with international composers, writers, and producers. “Sabi ko hindi naman ako sobrang nagfofocus pa sa composing at iyong mga kasama ko na composers dito sa ABS-CBN sobrang galing nila. Sabi ko may mga foreigners, mga taga-US. Akala ko ordinary na pero hindi. Sila yung nagcocompose para kina Ariana Grande, BTS, BLACKPINK at marami pang musicians na mga sikat,” she stated.
Maymay also acknowledged the pressure she felt, given her limited experience in collaborating with other artists. “This is very surreal, guys and very pressured kasi zero (pa yung experience ko). Never pa ako nakakacompose with other people,” she admitted.
On February 20, Maymay released her single "Paradise," composed by Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Allen, who is known for her work with Rosé (“APT,” “On the Ground,” “Number One Girl”) and Sabrina Carpenter (“Espresso,” Taste,” “Please Please Please”), together with ASCAP London Music Awards-winning songwriter Boy Matthews, who worked on TWICE’s debut English single "The Feels." The song was also produced and co-written by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Tommy Brown who worked on hits for Seventeen’s ("Don Quixote"), The Weeknd (“Is There Someone Else”) and Ariana Grande ("Positions," "Boyfriend," “7 Rings,” "Thank U, Next") as well as Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Lostboy who collaborated on BTS Jungkook’s "Hate You" and Kylie Minogue’s "Padam Padam." “Si Ms Amy Allen always work with Sabrina Carpenter tapos siya rin nagcompose for ‘Paradise.’ Sobrang blessed ko na binigyan pa nila ako ng iba pang songs, other than 'Amakabogera' English version kasama na rin iyong 'Paradise' and others,” Maymay said.
Before the release of her music video, Maymay shared why she decided to pursue a singing career. “I wanted my song po that comes from an inspiration kung ano iyong pinagdaanan ko ngayon. After a month, ayon po nabuo ang ‘Amakabogera,’” she said. “Ngayong napapakinggan ko na po (ang Amakabogera), naiiyak ako kasi yung song parang message na siya for me. Hindi na lang siya pop song. Galing siya sa puso ko,” she expressed. Reflecting on her journey, Maymay said, “Looking back, it took me few years para matutunan ko kung ano iyong natutunan ko ngayon. Sobrang worth it talaga.”
