Magnolia, TNT open 48th PBA season; Christmas Day games set


October 18 ------ MAGNOLIA Chicken Timplados and TNT Tropang Giga open hostilities of the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Nov. 5 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. The Hotshots and the Tropang Giga collide in the season curtain raiser at 7 p.m. at the Big Dome to start off the 48th season of the PBA. Before the match, the PBA will hand out individual awards in the 47th Season Leo Awards at 4 p.m. to be followed by the opening ceremonies at 5 p.m.


The opening game will feature Magnolia import Tyler Bey facing Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who is making a comeback with TNT after leading the team to the Governors’ Cup crown last April. Meanwhile, defending champion Barangay Ginebra will open its season on Nov. 17 with a match-up against Converge at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.


The Gin Kings will then play Magnolia Chicken Timplados on Nov. 19 at the Big Dome in the first ‘Manila Clasico’ salvo of the season. Ginebra and TNT will also play on Christmas Day, with the first game of the doubleheader pitting San Miguel against Phoenix Super LPG.


For the season, tip-off times will now be at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 3 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Out-of-town games also make a return with Tiaong, Quezon; San Jose, Batangas; Iloilo; and Cagayan De Oro hosting the matches.
