MANILA, Philippines, November 28 ------ A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook the province of Tarlac early Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The tremor occurred around 5:58 a.m. some 3 kilometers (kms) northeast of Tarlac City, the agency said. Tectonic in origin, the quake has a depth of focus of 199kms, it added.
Initial report said Instrumental Intensity 3 was recorded over Bani; and Intensity 2 in Santa Ignacia and Ramos, Tarlac; Dagupan City; Masinloc and Botolan, Zambales; Olongapo City; Bontoc, Mountain Province; and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity 1 was recorded over Tarlac City and Bamban; Guagua, Pampanga; Abucay and Dinalupihan, Bataan; City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Santol, La Union; Bustos, Bulacan; Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; and Navotas City, Metro Manila.
While aftershocks were expected, damage to property, however, was unlikely from the latest quake, Phivolcs said.
