MANILA, December 4 ------ A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte and was felt in other parts of northern Luzon before dawn on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The tectonic tremor hit 4 kilometers southwest of Bangui town at 2:54 a.m. It struck at a depth of 23 kilometers. The quake could spawn damage and aftershocks, Phivolcs warned.
It said the earthquake was felt at a “strong” Intensity 5 in Laoag, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Adams, Sarrat and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte. This intensity could cause strong shaking in buildings, make hanging objects swing violently, and rouse people from sleep, Phivolcs said.
It said the earthquake was also felt in other areas at the following intensities:

- Batac, Currimao and Pinili, Ilocos Norte
- Sinait, Vigan, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Bantay, Santa Lucia, Santa, Narvacan, San Esteban, Cabugao, San Juan, Caoayan, Magsingal, San Ildefonso, Santa Cruz, Santo Domingo, Santiago, City of Candon, and Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur
- Lacub, Tayum, San Juan, La Paz, San Isidro, Pidigan, Bangued, Tubo, and Bucay, Abra
- Baguio
- Atok and Buguias, Benguet
- Besao, and Bontoc, Mountain Province
Weak Intensity 3
- La Trinidad, Benguet
