MANILA, December 18 ------ A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Negros Occidental Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, occured at 3:37 p.m., some three kilometers northwest of Hinoba-an town at a depth of 32 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, while Intensity 3 was felt in San Jose de Buenavista and Hamtic in Antique, Iloilo City, and Sipalay City in Negros Occidental. Intensity 2 was also felt in Sibulan, Negros Occidental. Instrumental intensities were also recorded in the following areas:
Intensity IV: City of Sipalay, Negros Occidental
Intensity III: San Jose de Buenavista, Antique
Intensity I: City of Canlaon, Negros Oriental
Phivolcs said no aftershocks nor damage are expected following the earthquake.
