On 18th October 2024, the much-anticipated MAAP Intramurals and IMMAJ Family Day 2024 occurred at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) in Kamaya Point, Mariveles, Bataan.
The morning program kicked off with a solemn invocation and the singing of the National Anthem The four participating companies – Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta – were introduced, showcasing their unique qualities and enthusiasm. The introduction of the beautiful muses followed, adding a touch of glamour and excitement to the occasion. The lighting of the cauldron symbolized unity and sportsmanship. The cadets then took an oath of sportsmanship, pledging to compete fairly and with integrity.
The MAAP President, VADM Eduardo Ma R Santos AFP (Ret), officially commenced the event by declaring the opening of the intramurals for 2024-2025. This was followed by the vibrant Maskara Festival and Battle of the Band competition by company. The MAAP cadets showcased their creativity and talent through colorful costumes, energetic dance moves, and captivating musical performances. The atmosphere was filled with joy and enthusiasm as the audience cheered on their favorite teams. The Charlie Company emerged victorious in the Maskara Festival, while the Delta Company took home the top prize in the Battle of the Bands.
VADM Santos concluded the MAAP Intramurals with closing remarks, expressing gratitude to the sponsors and the parents. He expressed hope for continuing the tradition of holding the MAAP Intramurals and highlighting the importance of establishing bonds of friendship, unity, and collaboration to make a positive impact on the maritime world.
The afternoon portion of the event featured the IMMAJ Family Day in the IMMAJ parade ground, which was filled with fun-filled activities for the cadets and their families. MAAP DST Director, C/E Cleto del Rosario acknowledged the presence of VADM Santos, IMMAJ Chief Manila Representative, Capt. Genichi Osaka, IMMAJ Manila Representative, CE Masataka Fukuta, PJMCC Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Training Committee, Captain Juanito G. Salvatierra Jr., IMMAJ-PJMCC Foundation, Inc. Trustee, Capt. Hiroaki Uba, IMMAJ-PJMCC Foundation, Inc. Training Committee Member, Capt. Kenichi Aoki, distinguished guests, parents and people who made the Family Day possible.
VADM Santos gave his message stressing the importance of parental involvement in guiding young cadets to succeed in their careers. He also emphasized that “we're making every effort at MAAP and also at IMMAJ to ensure that our cadets continue to be aware, continue to be leaders, and continue to always be ahead in terms of technology, in terms of digitalization, in terms of new fuels that are coming up.”
Captain Salvatierra delivered a cordial address emphasizing the challenges faced by cadets in chasing their dreams. He stressed the importance of community and connection during a day of showcasing talents, allowing families to witness their children's progress in maritime education. Captain Salvatierra praised MAAP's efforts to strengthen relationships among cadets, families, and sponsors, working together for a brighter future.
The Family Day program featured exciting raffle draws, another Battle of the Bands competition this time among classes 2026, 2027, and 2028, and various games involving cadets, parents, IMMAJ trustees, and sponsors. Class 2026 emerged as the Battle of the Bands champions.
Captain Uba, in his closing remarks, highlighted the importance of the Family Day in strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories. Captain Uba emphasized IMMAJ's commitment to enhancing the skills and education of Filipino seafarers through its strong partnership with MAAP, based on mutual trust, shared objectives, and a dedication to the growth and success of Filipino seafarers on the global stage.
The MAAP Intramurals and IMMAJ Family Day 2024 was a resounding success, fostering unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among the MAAP and IMMAJ communities. It was a day filled with laughter, excitement, and friendly competition, leaving lasting memories for all who participated.
