On August 30, 2024, the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) and the International Mariners Management Association of Japan (IMMAJ) welcomed the incoming cadets of Class 2028 at the MAAP JSU-IMMAJ Campus, Mariveles, Bataan. Among the MAAP Class 2028 cadets, a total of 288 cadets benefited from the IMMAJ-PJMCC Cadetship Training Program (CTP), of which 152 are deck cadets and 136 are engine cadets.
The welcoming program was organized by the IMMAJ-PJMCC Foundation, Inc. (FINC) and the MAAP officers. MAAP President, VAdm. Eduardo Ma. R. Santos, AFP (Ret.), in his opening remarks, welcomed the sponsors, guests, and cadets, "Welcome cadets of Class 2028. Today marks the first of more steps on your road to success. MAAP is here to ensure that you are equipped not only with skills but also with values that you will need to become successful mariners."
Mr. Tohishito Inoue, the Chairman of IMMAJ, also offered remarks of appreciation to the class 2028 cadets. He talked about the successes that MAAP and IMMAJ have had in assisting Filipino seafarers from all around the country. Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC) President Captain Emmanuel L. Regio expressed his gratitude to the sponsors and cadets for participating in the event.
In a symbolic gesture, VAdm. Santos, Chairman Inoue, and Captain Regio led a Pinning Ceremony where they attached a pin bearing the Philippine and Japanese flags to the chest-pocket of a cadet representative, signifying the affiliation of the two countries in the maritime industry. The three gentlemen then carried on with the distribution of iPads. In another symbolic gesture, they presented another cadet representative with an iPad.
During the closing remarks, IMMAJ-PJMCC Training Coordinator for Deck Captain Gerry T. Chan gave a message of strength and courage to the cadets of Class 2028. He suggested to apply the values they will learn from this prestigious institution and to uphold excellence during their time in MAAP. Lastly, he thanked the sponsors who were present at the event.
Following the event, the sponsors and the cadets had lunch together before starting their open forum in their separate breakout rooms.
