Kayla Sanchez fails to advance in 100m freestyle

July 31 ------ Kayla Sanchez couldn’t sustain the impressive start to her Philippine debut in the 2024 Paris Olympics, failing to advance to the final of the women’s 100m freestyle at the Paris La Defense Arena.

After resetting the national record during the preliminary heats with a time of 53.67 seconds, the 23-year-old Fil-Canadian swimmer came out a little slower after clocking in 54.21sec in the semifinal. She finished seventh in her heat and 15th overall, completely missing out on the Top 8 that would advance to the final.

Tokyo Olympics silver and Asian Games gold medalist Sobhan Haughey of Hong Kong topped the finalists with a time of 52.64sec, 1.57sec clear of Sanchez’s time.
