
MANILA, March 24 ------ The 38th PMPC Star Awards for Television lit up the Dolphy Theater as the Philippine Movie Press Club honored the most outstanding programs and personalities of 2024. The star-studded affair was hosted by the powerhouse trio of Alden Richards, Kim Chiu, and Piolo Pascual.
Kapamilya stars won big, with Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11 hosts Bianca Gonzalez, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, Melai Cantiveros, Enchong Dee, and Alexa Ilacad winning Best Reality Show Host. Chiu, who also co-hosted the awards night, accepted the honor on behalf of her fellow hosts and was later named Female Star of the Night. Coco Martin's primetime action-drama FPJ's Batang Quiapo clinched the coveted Best Primetime TV Series award. Martin, visibly moved, said, "Sobra kaming nagpapasalamat talaga sa lahat ng taong sumusuporta at nagmamahal sa show."
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN's noontime hit "It's Showtime" bagged the Best Variety Show award, with its lead host Anne Curtis earning the title of Best Female TV Host. Veteran journalist Kabayan Noli De Castro was named Best Male Newscaster for TV Patrol. In his speech, he said: "Salamat po sa PMPC saka sa Star Award na ito at sa pangalan din po ng mga tauhan ng ABS-CBN News—In the Service of the Filipino."
Rising star Fyang Smith, a fan-favorite from Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11 Big 4Ever, was honored as Best New Female TV Personality. "Super grateful ako. It's such an honor na ma-recognize as a new TV female personality. Thank you sa mga fans ko—super overwhelmed ako," Smith said upon receiving her award. Major acting awards also went to Kapamilya talents. Piolo Pascual took home Best Drama Actor for Pamilya Sagrado, while Kim Chiu won Best Drama Actress for her intense performance in Linlang. Pascual was also named Male Star of the Night. Janine Gutierrez, who delivered a compelling performance in a supporting role, was awarded Best Drama Supporting Actress and also hailed as Female Celebrity of the Night. "I'm so happy talaga, hindi ako makapaniwala. Ito talaga yung role na akala ko hindi ko magagampanan. Ite-treasure ko ito forever," she said.
The evening also paid tribute to TV legends with special awards. The Ading Fernando Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Janice de Belen, who said: "For me, it means I must have done something good." Meanwhile, broadcast journalist Julius Babao received the Excellence in Broadcasting Lifetime Achievement Award. The German Moreno Power Tandem Award honored two on-screen duos: Kapamilya's Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino (Linlang), and GMA's Barbie Forteza and David Licauco (Pulang Araw). The late Gloria Romero was remembered with a Posthumous Award, recognizing her as one of the true icons of Philippine television.
