Kai Sotto suffers apparent knee injury as Koshigaya falls to Mikawa in B.League

January 6 ------ Nearly two months after suffering a left ankle injury, Kai Sotto sustained an apparent left knee injury during Koshigaya’s match against Mikawa in the 2024-25 B.League Division 1 at the Kariyashi Taiikukan Arena. The injury occurred at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter when Sotto, attempting a post-up move against Seahorses’ Zach Auguste, appeared to tweak his left knee. The 22-year-old center collapsed to the floor and remained there for nearly three minutes before being stretchered off the court.

Sotto’s absence proved costly for the Alphas, who narrowly fell to the Seahorses, 77-79, marking their second consecutive loss in the season. Before this latest setback, Sotto had already dealt with a left ankle injury during his first B.League game on November 7 against AJ Edu’s Nagasaki. However, he managed to recover in time to play a crucial role for Gilas Pilipinas in their perfect home stand during the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers from November 21 to 24. His contributions included a historic win over New Zealand and a dominant victory against Hong Kong.

Despite Koshigaya’s struggles this season, reflected in their 8-20 record, Sotto has been a consistent bright spot. The former Ateneo High School standout has averaged 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.7 steals in 28.1 minutes per game.
