November 12 ------ INJURIES continued to haunt Kai Sotto in the 2024-25 Japan B.League season, this time suffering a concussion in his first faceoff against Kiefer Ravena. Just a week removed from a sprained ankle, the 7-foot-3 center put up seven points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal in the Koshigaya Alphas’ 80-72 Saturday win over the Yokohama B-Corsairs at Yokohama International Pool. Sotto, however, had a collision in that game which left him concussed and forced him to sit out the second game of that series.
Ravena tallied seven points and four assists for the B-Corsairs in that first matchup. Without Sotto, Koshigaya suffered an 87-63 letdown on Sunday with Ravena putting up 11 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Koshigaya remains near the bottom of the East Conference with its 3-11 record, while Yokohama is now at 6-8.
Matthew Wright also settled for a split in a weekend series against his former team as Kawasaki fell to a 4-10 slate. The Fil-Canadian gunner had 17 points, three boards, and three assists in the Brave Thunders’ slim 83-81 setback to Kyoto Hannaryz on Saturday at Kataoka Arena Kyoto, before getting back with a 91-82 conquest on Sunday where he logged 14 points, five assists, four steals, two rebounds, and one block.
In the other games this weekend, Dwight Ramos and the Levanga Hokkaido saw their three-game win streak snapped by a pair of defeats to Utsunomiya Brex at Hokkai Kitayell. The Gilas Pilipinas guard was held to just five points, an assist, and a steal in Hokkaido’s 96-68 blowout loss on Saturday, before chipping in seven points, four assists, two blocks, a rebound, and a steal in the Levanga’s 88-79 setback on Sunday to drop to 5-9.
Ray Parks also saw his 26-point effort go to waste as Osaka Evessa lost to Sendai 89ers, 96-88 at Ookini Arena Maishima on Sunday. Parks also had three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block in that contest after being limited to just four points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals in their 87-68 loss the day before. Osaka is now at an even 7-7.
AJ Edu faced the same struggles, only churning two points, three rebounds, one assist, and one block in Nagasaki Velca’s 71-68 defeat to Akita Northern Happinets at Happiness Arena on Saturday. He was not fielded in their narrow 55-54 loss on Sunday as Nagasaki fell to 6-8.
