Julie Anne San Jose is 'Entertainer of the Year'




December 23 ------ Julie Anne San Jose won big after taking home the coveted Entertainer of the Year award during the 37th Aliw Awards held at The Manila Hotel. Apart from the said award, The "Asia's Limitless Star" also won Best Collaboration in a Concert with Stell Ajero of SB19 for their highly successful "Julie x Stell: Ang Ating Tinig" concert. San Jose, however, did not appear during the awards night due to taping and sent her regrets for her absence.

 

Meanwhile, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes's daughter Zia has been recognized as the Aliw Breakthrough Child Performer of the Year for RMA Studio Academy's "Be Our Guest." During the event, the nine-year-old personally accepted the award saying, "Thank you for making me have this opportunity to speak to all of you. Thank you for the Aliw Awards for giving me this wonderful award. Especially thank you to teacher Jade for always telling me never to give up and always achieve my dreams, and [for] Mama for always loving me and always guiding me every step of the way. My family always loves me and always there for me. Thank you everyone."

 

Meanwhile, Special Awardees were Melquiadesa Robles, Bong Libanan, Rep. Toff Devenecia, Bel-Air Makati, and the Philippine Heritage Society. Excellence Awards were given to First Lady Liza Marcos, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, San Miguel Corporation, Arnel Mateo, Cory Navarro, T. Paul Crewe, Grace Bondad Nicolas, and Mildred Vande Vitangcol. The Legacy Awards, on the other hand, recognized the achievements of John Lesaca, Imelda Papin, Pilita Corrales, Esperanza Fabon Victorino, and Evelyn Mandac. Lea Salonga was honored with the AHR Achievement Award for her "consistent excellent live performances for the past four decades and for bringing honor to the Philippines."

 

Founded in by journalist Alice Reyes, Aliw Awards recognize achievements in the live entertainment industry. The first awards show was held in 1977 with singer Pilita Corrales winning the first Entertainer of the Year. In her speech, Reyes reflected on the organization's accomplishments saying, "My heart is bursting with joy as I look back on what Aliw has accomplished in the past 47 years. As the first body that gives honor to our live entertainers, Aliw has elevated the standards of live entertainment and it has enhanced the lives and the careers of awardees."
