Juami Tiongson leads Terrafirma to a stunning win over Ginebra

April 8 ------ Terrafirma stunned Ginebra, 91-85, to end its skid in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup, Sunday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Kemark Carino, Stephen Holt, and Juami Tiongson nailed the big buckets down the stretch but the Dyip still needed some luck in the dying seconds on the way to completing the massive upset against the perennial contenders. Tiongson finished with a game-high 25 points, including the pair of free throws to push their lead to 91-79 with 1:29 left to in the game, to lead Terrafirma in just their second win ever against the crowd darlings in 23 meetings.

The first time that the franchise won against Ginebra was in the 2021 Philippine Cup bubble eliminations in Bacolor, where Tiongson fired 30 markers. Javi Gomez de Liano poured 22 points and six rebounds against the team that drafted him in the 2022 Draft only to get traded to the Dyip just days later. Terrafirma improved to 4-3.

Editor's note:

In the other game, TNT rallied from behind and upended the erstwhile surging Meralco, 92-90, to get back on track in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Calvin Oftana scored seven in an 8-0 run for a 92-87 lead with 45.6 seconds to go, before Roger Pogoy swatted away Aaron Black’s potential game-tying layup with seven ticks left as the Tropang Giga went on to snap their two-game skid.

Oftana finished with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds, while Jayson Castro had 15 points in the win that hiked their card to 3-3. Aaron Black and Cliff Hodge, meanwhile, had 16 points apiece for the Bolts, which saw the end of their two-game winning streak.
