January 3 ------ MERALCO hopes to win at home for the first time in the EASL as it hosts Jeremy Lin and the New Taipei Kings today at the Philsports Arena. Game time is at 7 p.m. The Bolts fell short in their first home game the last time, losing to the Seoul SK Knights, 81-80, also in the same Pasig venue.
The loss pushed the team back to the bottom of the Group B standings at 1-3, but still in contention for one of two semifinal berths in its bracket. The Bolts have unfinished business with the unbeaten Kings after losing their first encounter at the New Taipei Xinzhuang gymnasium a month ago, 97-92. A familiar face in the visitors' lineup is Hayden Blankley, who also contributed to the scrambling win with 15 points, including nine points from three-point range.
Blankley suited up for the Bay Area Dragons that finished runner-up to Barangay Ginebra in the last PBA Commissioner’s Cup. The Taipei Kings, who are on top of Group B with a 2-0 record, arrived in the country on Tuesday and had their practice at the PhilSports Arena shortly after.
