January 10 ------ JAPAN lent the Philippines a helping hand in grassroots development by providing volleyball supplies for young Filipino players through its ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ program.
Takahiro Hanada, Japanese minister and consul general, led the turnover of sporting equipment on the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA)’s behalf to Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara on Thursday at the new PNVF headquarters in Taguig. Hanada shared the JVA’s desire to leave a lasting impact in the growth of Philippine volleyball ahead of a landmark World Championship year. “With the sport seeing record-breaking attendances and emerging talents, I believe our cooperation comes at an exciting time for volleyball’s culture,” Hanada said. “We eagerly take this opportunity to support the Philippines’ emerging volleyball scene. We are proud to have this equipment in the hands of young and eager Filipinos. It is my hope that these volleyballs play a vital part in fueling the dreams and connections of the Philippines’ youth.”
Suzara thanked the JVA for its generosity in providing essential volleyball supplies for both beach and indoor play that the PNVF will distribute nationwide. “These equipment will fuel the enthusiasm of young players in the provinces. These balls will reach many young players in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon,” Suzara said. “We appreciate Japan’s continuing support of Asian volleyball and we hope to continue this relationship with Japan not only in terms of equipment but also coaching, national team training camps and even management.”
Japan’s men’s national team Ryujin Nippon, led by global stars Ran Takahashi, Yuki Ishikawa and Yuji Nishida, is among the 32 teams to take center stage as the Philippines hosts the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in September.
