March 12 ------ Kapamilya actress Janine Gutierrez expressed that she would rather focus on herself rather than the impact her last name has when it comes to the entertainment industry. In an interview with Cosmopolitan PH, the Lavender Fields star shared some of her thoughts about being born into the Gutierrez clan.
She is part of the talented Gutierrez clan as she is the daughter of Ramon Christopher whose mother is veteran singer-actress Pilita Corrales. She is also related to TonTon, Richard, Ruffa, and Raymond Gutierrez–– all of whom have made a mark in the entertainment industry. Apart from the Gutierrez clan, Janine’s adoptive maternal grandparents are veteran actors Christopher De Leon and Nora Aunor.
For the Kapamilya actress, she didn't want to put any pressure on herself when she entered the showbiz industry. “I have to forget about all that legacy stuff for me to even function because kung inisip ko siya, then I would never have entered showbiz,” she told Cosmopolitan PH. She added that she keeps herself grounded and remains to only compete against herself–– making sure to improve herself day by day. “It sounds kind of cheesy, but it's true when they say that you shouldn't compare yourself to anyone. Your only competition is yourself,” she added.
In the same interview, Janine admitted several realizations she had when she entered the entertainment industry. One of which was taking the “pressure off” in order to move forward. “A career is a marathon, not a sprint… I really had to take the pressure off to be comfortable being a beginner,” she said.
When asked how she sees herself in the future, the Kapamilya star continued being humble and wants to let fate take its course. “If you had asked me five years ago where I'd be now, I would never have guessed. So, I can't answer because I'll probably give you the wrong answer. But hopefully, I'm able to produce projects that I have chosen, that I built the team for, and that have a really wide audience. And that I'm still happy doing what I love with the people I love,” she said.
