August 2 ------ THERE’S still no stopping Akari in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference after its fourth straight win in as many Pool B games over ZUS Coffee, 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 at the Philsports Arena. The still-unscathed Chargers seized control of their pool through Ivy Lacsina’s 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks to extend their best-ever PVL start and longest win streak since joining the league in 2022.
As a result, the Thunderbelles slid into the league’s worst record — still without a win four matches into pool play. “About this game, we prepared well. And the players also started thinking, (they're) kind of serious, and analyzed (how we can be better). And what we did from the beginning of this game, it was very good,” Akari head coach Taka Minowa said.
The Chargers' triple threat in Lacsina, American reinforcement Oly Okaro (14 points), and Grethcel Soltones (12 points) had the scoring front covered — and ZUS Coffee just couldn't figure them out. Ex-Nxled ace in Kamille Cal was also in her A-game in playmaking with 17 excellent sets. Meanwhile, it was a loss as tough as can be for the still-winless Thunderbelles, as Japanese import Tamaru Asaka was held to just eight markers. No other ZUS Coffee player hit double-figures in a rough all-around scoring night.
