August 21 ------ GILAS Pilipinas Women dropped a 97-60 loss to Hungary to stay winless in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda. The Filipina ballers were outscored by the world number 16 in the second quarter, 28-10, to enter the half down, 51-24. Hungary later led by as many as 39 points to even its record to 1-1 as the Philippines fell to a 0-2 record.
The Philippines failed to sustain its play after its narrow 77-74 loss to world number 8 Brazil on Monday. After a one-day break, Gilas Women will look to keep its slim hopes of advancing to the semifinals alive in its match against Senegal on Thursday. Afril Bernardino had 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while Ella Fajardo had 10 points. Kacey Dela Rosa added nine points, five rebounds, and three blocks for Gilas Women. After a double-double against Brazil, Jack Animam was limited to six points while committing five turnovers in 23 minutes and 57 seconds of action. Agnes Torok had 25 points and shot 10-of-11 from the field for Hungary.
