January 13 ------ THE Philippines walloped Kuwait, 4-1, at the start of its AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers at the Yunusobod Sports Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Katrina Guillou scored two goals for the PH women’s futsal squad to open the Asian qualifiers on a high note.
Guillou made the first goal two minutes into the match-up on a rebound, while fellow Filipinas football World Cup teammate Bella Flanigan got their squad ahead by two goals in the 22nd. Dionesa Tolentin padded the Philippines lead to 3-1. A 26th-minute goal by Kuwait’s Shrouq Muhammad didn’t shackle the Philippine team as Guillou completed the brace two minutes before the final whistle.
The Asian Cup qualifiers is the first stage of qualification for the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, but the Philippines still opted to compete even though it has earned a berth being the host country of the event to be held from November 21 to December 7. It is, however, aiming to finish in the top two of Group C in order to qualify in the Asian Cup set on May 7-18 in China. The Philippines battles host Uzbekistan on Monday at the continuation of its campaign in the qualifiers.
